“It sets a new standard — a higher bar for municipalities and public buildings going forward.”

Through solar panels on the roof, the net zero design will generate the equivalent amount of energy required to run the building throughout the year, including heating and air conditioning.
“We also want to show leadership in the community with this building. We wanted to show how we could be economically green,” said Kidd.
According to Shawn Turcotte, vice-president of general contracting for Thomas Cavanagh Construction Limited, the building “is designed to be a post-disaster structure. In the event of a major environmental catastrophe, this building is still here for the community, which is extremely important for municipalities going forward.”

KWC Architects Inc. designed the project from the ground up. It features:
Municipal offices
Council chamber
A community hall (Brunton Community Hall)
An outdoor patio area
Commercial kitchen
Meeting room
And more!
The project is an accessible building for the community. The council knew it wanted to have an environmentally friendly building and it wanted to apply to the Green Municipal Fund, a program of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) for grant and loan opportunities.
