CNL July Newsletter

Hello Friend,

CNL is ready for summer! We hope you had a good Canada Day but that you also spent some time reflecting on Truth and Reconciliation during the day, and the importance of your actions and thoughts on those around you.

Our projects wouldn't be possible without your support and we will be forever grateful for that. If you'd like to donate to CNL, please use the Donate button at the bottom.

Experience in non-profit management, strategic planning, and fundraising would be considered an asset.

Stewart Park Festival: Volunteers

CNL will have its Green Waste and Recycling Depot at the Stewart Park Festival again this year. The Festival runs from July 19-21st  in Perth, Ontario. Last year, we had an amazing 45 volunteers who helped us with this greening effort.

We are seeking volunteers who can give us whatever time they have available to assist us with covering our 3-hour shifts. We’re in close proximity to the main stage and washrooms, so you truly get the benefit of listening to some great music. If you’d like to volunteer to help us Green the Festival, simply reply or email hello@climatenetworklanark.ca

Electrify Lanark EV Workshop, Test Drives, and Busted Myths

It was truly a privilege to host Mike and Raymond, along with many other dedicated members of EVCO, who brought their EVs to Almonte and provided the test drives. By the way, EVCO is 30 years old so they know what they are talking about.

The workshop was a resounding success, with 100% of attendees recommending this workshop to others.

Stay tuned for a video recording of the presentation, which will be available this fall. In the meantime, visit our website to access the PowerPoint slides and other valuable resources. As one attendee remarked in a survey, "I really appreciate the excellent opportunities that CNL offers to local residents."

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success. Your participation is vital in promoting climate friendly transportation options in our community.

EVs - So many myths to bust

Sue Brandum:

“I have an Electric Vehicle – or EV – and I have had for 2.5 years now. I love it. And frankly, I get very tired of seeing the various posts on social media meant to discredit EVs. So it was with particular great pleasure that I listened to Mike Banks’ presentation on Busting EV Myths and I’m happy to share a few of the busted myths here.”

Hot Water Heating Systems Workshop

Electrify Lanark also hosted an enlightening workshop on Electric Hot Water Heating Systems, including Heat Pump Hot Water Heaters, on June 20 in the Smiths Falls Arena.

David Murphy from Orange HVAC led the workshop, offering a wealth of knowledge on the most effective ways to heat water, the health benefits of upgrading systems, and the pros and cons of various heating systems. His insightful presentation covered conventional electric water heaters, oil-fired water heaters, natural gas or propane water heaters, instantaneous (tankless) water heaters, and, what most were interested in, hybrid heat pump water heaters. Participants learned about the advantages and disadvantages of each system, including energy efficiency, environmental impact, and operational costs.

The many well-informed and educated participants make for engaging discussions and a lively Q&A session. Attendees left with a better understanding of how to optimize their hot water heating systems for efficiency and sustainability and with considerations for when and how to switch up to a heat pump water heater.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to David Murphy for his excellent presentation and to all attendees for making the event a resounding success. Your enthusiasm and participation are what make our community events so impactful.

Community Stories

Climate Network Lanark has been undertaking a community project – to gather and share as many inspiring stories as possible of businesses, individuals, and other organizations around Lanark County & Smiths Falls who are doing their part to make a difference locally on climate change.

Our plan is that through sharing what others are involved in and how they are doing their part, it will bring about connection and hope.

Our Projects Need Your Support

CNL wants to continue to grow our reach in the community. We have been working hard to expand our projects since we started four years ago. But to keep going, we need your help!

CNL relies on YOU in order to keep pushing for climate action in Lanark County. We need stable staff positions, and to do that we need stable funding. Projects that we are excited to expand may be stalled when we don't have a stable funding base. We would love for you to consider helping in any way you can. Please consider becoming a monthly donor and join the movement!

We offer charitable receipts for your donation through our partnership with the Salal Foundation. Monthly donors receive an annual receipt in time for tax season.
