CNL Needs Volunteers for its New Green Waste Depot at Stewart Park Festival

Climate Network Lanark is excited to tell you we will provide a New Green Waste Depot at this year’s Stewart Park Festival . “We’re doing this to demonstrate and cut greenhouse gasses (GHGs) generated by the waste at the Festival,” said CNL Director Susan Brandum.

“We’re starting with a Depot for the center stage section of the Festival, but we’re hoping to capture as much organic waste as possible because that’s where the real GHG savings are, but we need volunteers to make this work. Let’s make a real contribution to fighting the climate crisis in a very public way at the Festival,” added Brandum. “CNL has 1,000 supporters. The shifts are 2-3 hours, let’s share the fun.”

Climate Network Lanark’s volunteers will assist festival-goers in disposing of their organic waste, recyclable materials and garbage at the Depot, directing what goes in which bin.

“We will not be sorting ourselves, but showing and teaching festival-goers where to direct their waste. Taking care of our waste is a life-long practice, we need regular festival attendees to develop practices they can keep up every year they return to the Festival,” said Sadie Brule, the CNL staffer organizing the Depot.

The Waste Depot will be centrally located in the main stage area, close to the washrooms. A prominent white and green flag will set it apart from other tents. Organics will be captured in the Town of Perth’s Green Bins and taken to the Compost Site. Composting organics does not produce methane and is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to address the climate crisis.

In order to ensure that everything proceeds smoothly, CNL is seeking volunteers for the Waste Depot and CNL’s own booth, promoting our Climate Concierge and Wetlands projects, commenting on the County’s Draft Climate Action Plan and local climate action.

“We hope people want to volunteer, to give back to the community, and make a contribution to the climate cause,” said Brule. Shifts are two to three hours long. Volunteers can contact Sadie at sadie@climatenetworklanark.ca

UPDATE!  Volunteers for CNL'S New Green Waste Depot at Stewart Park Festival

As previously communicated, Climate Network Lanark has developed and is running the New Green Waste Depot at this year’s Stewart Park Festival.

We’ve had great response to our first request for volunteers.

But we need a few more to fill in some gaps.

Many volunteers have opted to join us with friends who will already be attending the festival.

The shifts are 2-3 hours long.

We are looking for volunteers for late Friday afternoon (between 4 and 7), late Saturday evening,  (5 to 7 and 7 to 9- when Matt Andersen is playing!), and Sunday morning (11 to 1) but we can always take more climate action volunteers!

Volunteers can contact Sadie at sadie@climatenetworklanark.ca

For those who hadn’t seen our first notice: We’re starting with a Depot for the center stage section of the Festival, but we’re hoping to capture as much organic waste as possible because that’s where the real GHG savings are.

We will not be sorting ourselves, but showing and teaching festival-goers how to properly dispose of their waste, in the organic, blue or yellow bins. Taking care of our waste is a life-long practice, we need regular festival attendees to develop practices they can keep up every year they return to the Festival.

The Waste Depot will be centrally located in the main stage area, close to the washrooms. A prominent white and green flag will set it apart from other tents.
