Maximilian Restaurant

Maximilian Restaurant

Located on the historic waterfront, Maximilian Restaurant is known for serving mouthwatering, authentic European cuisine made with fresh, high-quality ingredients by their dedicated, in-house chefs.

How Did it Start?

Maximilian Restaurant was started in 1973 by Miroslav and Jana Brandejs, who had emigrated from Czechoslovakia to Toronto.

In the fall of 1973, they moved to Perth and opened Maximilian's at The Perth Hotel. The name of the restaurant was inspired by King Maximilian I, who ruled Bavaria from 1806 to 1825.

The Brandejs’ tradition of excellence and dedication to serving authentic European cuisine has been carried on today by the current owners, Kevin VanDusen and Sheri Robertson, and the staff of Maximilian Restaurant.

Guests have the choice of several seating areas in the beautiful heritage stone building (circa 1950), including a lovely patio overlooking the Tay River, whie they enjoy food, liquer, beer, wine, and company!

But Are They Environmentally-Friendly?

Spoiler Alert: They Are!

Maximilian's Restaurant is dedicated to environmental sustainability in every aspect of their operations. Unlike many others, we proudly do not use dumpsters, instead opting for comprehensive recycling practices. Every week, they diligently separate waste into yellow, blue, and numerous green bins, ensuring materials are recycled efficiently.

Food scraps that aren't used in their stocks are collected by a local farmer for composting, while another fellow uses their meat scraps to feed his show dogs, reducing waste and supporting the community. Used cooking oil is recycled through a specialized company.

All their takeout containers are fully compostable, minimizing environmental impact. Beyond their doors, they actively participate in Lanark County's 'Road Cleanup' program, cleaning up their designated stretch of Scotch Line annually.

Maximilian’s committed staff, passionate about environmental causes, volunteer their time and energy to these efforts each year. Moreover, they’ve upgraded all dining room lighting to eco-friendly bulbs, further demonstrating their commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. At Maximilian's, environmental stewardship is not just a responsibility but a core value they uphold with pride.
