The Reform Gravel Mining Coalition (RGMC) is encouraging the involvement of groups around the province under threat from the incursion of aggregate extraction into environmentally sensitive areas. Friends of Lanark Highlands is hosting a Nature Walk that day, at Wheeler’s Maple on the Highland Line.

This location is adjacent to the lands under consideration by Lanark Highlands Twp. and Lanark County for the licensing of an extensive sand and gravel pit development. 

The RGMC is promoting a moratorium on such new development until the industry’s practices can be fully scrutinized, as per the recent report of Ontario’s Auditor General.
