Hi Friend,

And suddenly it is autumn, and everything is happening very quickly: The election encroaches at the speed of light, and electing Climate champions feels more urgent than ever. Six of Lanark County’s lower tier municipalities are embarking on creating their new Official Plans, and Lanark County’s Climate Action Committee is leading the development of the Climate Action Plan for the next 10 years.

The coming months provide a multitude of opportunities to make sure Climate is on everyone’s agenda. We hope you will continue to speak loudly about the Lanark County you want to see for the coming generations.

In solidarity,

Gord, Sue and Emily

1. Federal Candidates in Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston respond to Climate Questions

Climate Network Lanark sent a slate of questions about Climate to all the candidates in the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston riding. We received answers from Green Party Candidate Calvin Neufeld, Liberal Candidate Michelle Foxton, and NDP Candidate Steve Garrison. We did not receive a response from Conservative incumbent Scott Reid.

Please read and circulate their responses so that we can elect a Climate Champion in our riding, someone to drive real change at the federal level AND help CNL achieve its goals locally.

Lanark County is developing a Climate Action Plan with guidance and input from Climate

Network Lanark. CNL has launched a massive survey to understand how we — Lanarkites — heat our homes, get around, handle organic waste and much more. The collected data will help ensure the Climate Action Plan focuses on priority areas and addresses the needs and concerns of us all.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey Your input will help shape an aggressive climate action plan for Lanark County and area for the next ten years.

If that is not reason enough, if you complete a survey, you have the option of putting your name into a draw for one of 4 great prizes.

- A personal garden consultation with Ed Lawrence

- A ride in his Tesla Electric Vehicle with Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Panko

- A delicious and climate conscious local food taster pack from Nature's Apprentice Farms and Maplelane Farms

- Vegetarian dinner for 2 at a local restaurant - contributed by an anonymous donor

The survey can be found here and we would love for you to circulate it widely.

Good things In Our Future - Socially Responsible Investing

Susan Berlin, Lanark Era

In the last 10 or 15 years, Lanark Highlands has attracted a lot of retirees – I’m one of them — and most of us come with our retirement funds, large or small. Retirement funds have a lot of power, because they represent the money we have ‘loaned’ to various industries. And as they say, he who pays the piper calls the tune: in this case, the tune is what you want your money to support. (READ MORE)

6. Actions You Can Take

1. Fill out our survey, and then ask 5 friends to do the same thing. Who knows, this may be your moment to wear the title of Celebrated Survey Slinger!

2, Join our survey team - an easy way to spend a few hours chatting to people in the community. We are looking for friendly folks to join us at the following events - Mississippi Mills at a Glance (Sept. 15th), Paddlefest in Smiths Falls (Sept. 18th) Perth and Almonte Farmers Markets. More dates to be added soon, but if you have an event that you think could use a CNL table, do let us know.

3. Attend one of the Global Climate Strikes being held in Lanark in Perth on Sept 8th and 24th, and in Almonte on the 24th. Check our website for updates.

4. More surveys! This one from the Gov of Ontario who are seeking feedback to improve transit in Eastern Ontario
