“ Personally, I was excited to work with The Table because of the impact it has on individuals and the community at large. It is a very positive and supportive environment and helping people access essential needs of food and fellowship is incredibly satisfying. I’m also inspired by our commitment to more systemic and policy changes to address food insecurity and poverty.”
Ramsey Hart, Executive Director
What is the Table Doing to Further the Climate Change Movement?
They understand the connections to food security and climate change. For example, one of the causes of recent food inflation has been the impacts of drought, reducing availability of produce from some of the areas we depend on.
They also make efforts to support the local food system, purchasing from local farmers, and promoting them through our special events and social media. As a member of FoodcoreLGL, they are working on ways to build a more resilient and equitable regional food system.

Their main climate-related operational efforts relate to keeping organic food waste out of the landfill. They source surplus food from local retailers and find ways to make it available to the community. They always strive to minimize food waste in their own operations. Finally, unavoidable food waste is diverted to either the municipal green bin system or local farmers who use it for animal feed.
They installed energy efficient lighting throughout their building.
Future Projects from The Table
Installing rooftop solar and improving our HVAC efficiency are ideas they are interested in exploring further.
They will be working with FoodColreLGL to renew and expand Lanark Local Flavour and other regional food system initiatives. This is a 10 year project.
