Funding and Financing Programs: Electricity

  • Will be updated on February 28th, 2024 to up to $45 per monthly bill, or $68 for energy-intensive households (those who use electricity to heat, require medical devices, or are or live with an indigenous person).

  • Income-based. Eligibility can be verified here.

  • Monthly credit amounts to energy bills for low-income households.

Energy Affordability Program (Hydro One), now merged with the Home Winterproofing Program (HWP)

  • None.

    The program includes things such as ENERGY STAR® certified LED light bulbs, LED night lights, high-efficiency shower heads (standard and handheld)*, faucet aerators (kitchen and bathroom)*, drying lines for clothes, energy-efficient refrigerators, window air conditioners, smart power strip, additional attic or basement insulation, weatherstripping around doors and windows, smart thermostat(s), and NOW OFFERING FREE COLD-CLIMATE HEAT PUMPS FOR FREE

  • Be a resident of eligible social housing, or either meet income requirements, have received assistance from several governmental programs, received a Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) grant or were part of the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) within the last 12 months, or qualified to participate in a natural gas income-eligible demand side management (DSM) program during the past 12 months.     *for the Home Winterproofing Program (HWP) applicants must be Enbridge customers.

  • The Energy Affordability Program provides support to income-eligible electricity consumers by helping them to better manage their monthly electricity costs and increase their home comfort.

    There are two types of support available through the Energy Affordability Program: Comprehensive Support and Energy Saving Kits. People who live in Ontario (including those living in grid-connected First Nations communities) and are responsible for paying their monthly electricity bill as a homeowner or as a renter may qualify for this program.

  • Two Tesla Power Walls installed and to be used as a backup in case of an electric outage (cost of $30k)

  • Limitations on the area (where you live), speed of internet, the capacity of electrical panels, (not?) having a generator with a transfer switch attached to your hydrometer, and being a Hydro One customer

  • Installation, operation and maintenance of a battery energy storage system. Installation and maintenance are covered at no cost*, and will be managed by MPOWER Energy Solutions, a third-party contractor. This BESS will be owned and operated by Hydro One for five years and then renewed annually.

    *Participants are responsible for ensuring the system is connected to the internet, covered by homeowners’ insurance, and ensuring no damage to the batteries during the program period.
